As Vice President of Life Safety and Security at Fontainebleau Miami Beach, James D. Wheatley possesses 20 years of experience in hotel security with demonstrated expertise in corporate security and leadership bolstered by a military background. In his role at Fontainebleau Miami Beach, Wheatley oversees all life safety and security operations of the 1,504-room resort including 12 restaurants and lounges, nightclub, convention center, warehousing and concert event spaces, all spanning over 22 acres.
Wheatley began his career at Fontainebleau Miami Beach in 2004, first named as Director of Safety, Security and Risk Management and later Executive Director of Safety and Security. Previously, he had served in the US Army Reserves before earning a master’s degree in security and administration from Southwestern College. From there, he served as the Security Manager at Sheraton Bal Harbour before gaining the title of Director of Safety and Security on site.
Wheatley is a member of the American Society for Industrial Security International as well as the National Fire Protection Association.
